Double Deep pallet racking is a heavy-duty racking system that is considered the most efficient storage solution today. It is formed by two rows of single Selective Racking placed back-to-back. This increases the floor area used and maximizes the reduction in aisle width. It is an upgraded rack design that provides benefits that no other system can replace or meet.

The Double Deep rack is essentially made up of the following components:

• Load-bearing upright frame: This part forms a sturdy rack system, characterized by its width, length, and depth. The upright frame features evenly spaced holes for easy connection with beam components and can be easily adjusted.
• Beam: This is where pallets are directly placed. It is connected to two upright columns through pre-designed hook bars on the beam. Bolts and screws are used to increase stability.
• Bracing beam: The bracing beam is used to distribute the load evenly across the entire Double Deep system, eliminating pressure points. It is usually fixed to the upright frame in an X or Z shape.
• Steel mesh protection: Steel mesh barriers are installed on the sides or rear of the rack to prevent items from falling during storage or retrieval. (Optional, depending on usage needs)
• Speed reducer and guardrail: Due to the nature of warehouse operations, forklifts often operate near the columns of Double Deep racks, leading to potential collisions. Therefore, speed reducers and guardrails are often placed outside the rack system, at a distance of 10-20cm, to enhance safety during operation.

Operation of Double Deep Racking

To operate this type of Double Deep pallet racking, the warehouse must first be equipped with a specialized forklift that can extend its reach. The depth of these racks makes it challenging for conventional forklifts to access pallets deep within the rack.

Inbound operations

The operator selects the storage position and places the first pallet deep inside the rack, followed by placing the second pallet adjacent to it. This process continues for the next two pallets, which are placed on the outer side of the rack level. Each level can store up to 8 pallets, so the remaining 4 pallets are similarly stored on the opposite side.

Outbound operations

Double Deep racking operates on a Last In, First Out (LIFO) basis. Therefore, the last pallet loaded into the rack will be the first one to be retrieved.
