Push Back Racking

Push Back Racking

Push Back Racks are pallet rack systems with a storage depth of 4 to 6 pallets. The design features a 3-degree inclined slope that gradually lowers at the entry end, facilitating the movement of pallets at speeds of 12-15 meters per minute inside the system.

Introduction to Push Back Racks

Push Back Racks are fixed pallet storage systems that can accommodate multiple pallets on sliding carts simultaneously, tripling the storage density compared to conventional racks. This article provides detailed information about this type of rack, crucial for determining whether it is the ideal choice for your warehouse.

Learn about what is Push Back Racking?

Push Back Racks are pallet rack systems with a storage depth of 4 to 6 pallets. The design features a 3-degree inclined slope that gradually lowers at the entry end, facilitating the movement of pallets at speeds of 12-15 meters per minute inside the system. Grouping solidly constructed rack rows significantly improves storage density. The average capacity per Push Back pallet is up to 500kg.

Using the push back system enhances flexibility and operational efficiency of material handling vehicles. Forklifts do not need to move deep into the rack, they only need access to one end of a single rack row.

Technical Specifications of Push Back Racks

  • Load capacity: ≥ 500kg per pallet.
  • Height: Optimal up to 7 meters.
  • Upright: Perforated omega shape.
  • Shelf surface: Utilizes rails and pallet guide frames.
  • Material: High-quality electrostatically painted steel, European standard.
  • Retrieval method: Various types of forklifts.
  • Inbound/outbound method: Last-In, First-Out (LIFO).
  • Slope of sliding cart: 2-3 degrees.

Push Back Racking can load up to 1500kg/pallet

The structural components of the Push Back Pallet Rack

A complete set of Push Back Racks consists of the following 8 components:

  • Uprights: Load-bearing columns for the entire Push Back rack system.
  • Cross-bracing beams: Distribute forces between load-bearing columns, ensuring balance for the rack system.
  • Beam: Connects two rack frames to create positions for storing pallets.
  • Column protector: Connects the floor surface with the column foot, ensuring stability for the storage rack system.
  • Guardrail: Protects the rack system from collisions with other equipment during the loading and unloading of goods.
  • Sliding cart 1: The bottom cart that allows pallets to slide in as goods are stacked.
  • Sliding cart 2: Positioned above sliding cart 1.
  • Sliding cart 3: Positioned above sliding cart 2.
  • Pallet stoppers: Prevent pallets from sliding off the rack during movement and storage operations.

*Note: On a pallet guide rail, Push Back racking can have 2, 3, 4, or 5 sliding carts (depending on the number of pallets or storage requirements of the warehouse). For efficient use and cost savings, please contact us directly at 0938 520 379 for more detailed advice.

Superior Advantages of Push Back Racking

  • Storage of heavy goods up to 500 - 3000 kg per level.
  • Non-uniform pallet handling, can store multiple items.
  • Structure with bolted underground connection for easy adjustment of distance between levels.
  • More flexible and convenient access than Drive-in racks because forklifts do not have to travel deep inside.
  • Significant reduction in unnecessary collisions. Optimized aisle space to use as storage space.
  • Each sliding cart is separate, making identification and repair easy if damaged.
  • Does not require specialized forklifts. Using a forklift for entry and exit from one side is convenient and quick.

Operation of Push Back Pallet Racking

Push Back racks are equipped with a series of stacked sliding carts on the same inclined rail. This rack operates on the principle:

Inbound process

The first pallet is loaded onto the sliding cart, followed by the second pallet. The second pallet, under the force of the forklift, slides in thanks to the sliding cart system. Similarly, the third pallet will push the first two pallets further back. This process continues until the rail is filled with goods.

Outbound process

As soon as the front pallet is unloaded from the system, the pallets behind it move forward to fill the empty position. Each sliding cart acts as a brake system, instantly decelerating to prevent pallets from falling off the rack.

*Note: Push Back Racks and Pallet Flow Racks are two different types of racks, however, their operation is somewhat similar. Forklifts do not need to move deep into each row of racks; instead, they only approach the front of each row. This can cause confusion. To understand better, you need to learn more about how the Pallet Flow Rack operates.

Which Type of Warehouse Should Use Push Back Racking?

Push Back Racking is a type of rack with a unique design, so not every warehouse is suitable for its application. To determine the suitability of this rack system for storage, you need to understand the types of warehouses below:

  • Automobile manufacturing plants, warehouses for mechanical tools and equipment...
  • Warehousing large quantities of industrial products, food products.
  • Operating well in coolers, freezers.
  • Safely storing goods according to the Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) principle.
  • Multi-purpose use in logistics warehouses.

Therefore, for units that want to increase warehouse storage space without the need for additional construction or expansion, Push Back Racking is a reasonable choice.
